Living and Working in the World

Traditionally spiritual seekers have gone into places of solitude to practice, but in today's world it is impossible to get away from humanity. Here is Rama's practical advice about solitude, spiritual fellowship, housing and career in the modern age.

Modular Mysticism: Dress for Power

“One's progression along the spiritual path is a very, very intricate matter. This evening I'd like to talk to you a little bit about the structure of your being and how this process actually works, with specific recommendations as to what you can do to radically alter your current state of knowledge and awareness….

"Let us begin with clothing. It doesn't really matter where we start because the rule will apply to everything we discuss. We could discuss the orderliness of your room or your house or your career. But let us begin with clothing, because once you understand the principle, you can apply it to any aspect of your life.“ Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

Personal Power

"Personal power is a feeling -- a feeling that everybody wants called satisfaction. We can see it in someone who has a powerful life, someone who is able to get what they want to get or avoid what they want to avoid. That's one level of personal power. Now naturally, there's an entirely different level of personal power when we enter into the world of the psychic, the world of the occult, the world of the spiritual. Here personal power is the ability to enter into different planes of reality.

"Why do that? Because knowledge lies in those other dimensions. Power lies in those other dimensions. Beauty. Everything that's here and more. It's part of your world, that's why. It's part of the universe. It's part of you. Everything that is, is part of you. And as you pass through the other dimensions, you get an education, and you change and you grow." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

The Zen of Sports and Athletics

"In a Zen state of mind, you do not worry ... you don't give your thoughts to your opponent, you don't give your power or thoughts to success or failure, you don't care about the crowd that's watching you or the fact that no one is watching you. There is only one thought -- one feeling -- and that is becoming one with the play, with the move, with the action, with the sequence, with the team." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz "So in the Zen of sports and athletics, we seek to bring discipline and control into our physical movements, but at the same time to eliminate the Self.… The emptiness of play -- or we could call it the fullness -- is when there is no self present. There is no one playing; there is only play itself taking place, perfect fluid motion." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz "A person who practices sports and athletics, who is able to stop their thoughts during the play and allow the universe to spill through them, is capable of great magic." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

Winning

"In Nirvana there's no winning or losing, but as long as you're in the relative worlds, there is winning and losing. Only the completely enlightened are beyond winning and losing, and they had to win to get to that point." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz What is winning in Rama’s view? Winning in Zen is: 1) being able to do what you want to do, and 2) knowing the Still Center of Being. You win by meditating to gain control of your time, life and mind, and by building a winning identity.

Zen Tapes

"What I term Tantric Zen, I could also refer to as old Zen, the original face of Zen, or new Zen, contemporary Zen practice -- no mind, the mirror of existence. Zen is meditation, the actual experience of life -- directly, immediately, with no buffers." -- Rama

Path of Negation

In the path of affirmation (religion) we improve our lives. But after many lifetimes of religious practices, what's next? The path of negation (Tantra) is a path where we go back through all the experiences we avoided in our religious lifetimes and in the process we negate the self. We come to see and experience that God is in everything.

Solstices and Equinoxes

In occultism, we hook ourselves to powers, forces and energies (such as the solstices and equinoxes) to carry us along the way. We are given power by a teacher which if used properly can rapidly accelerate our progress. It is very bad karma not to use the energy from a teacher properly.

Power

“Power is the active force in life. It is the force of life that makes awareness. Power is the band that we perceive things on. In radio we have AM stations, FM stations, short wave stations and others. They’re frequencies. Frequencies vibrate at specific rates, and within those frequencies we transmit information and receive information. Perception is made up of bands (like radio stations). It’s a way of talking about it.

"There are many bands of perception in the universe. There are both organic and inorganic bands of perception. Today we’re confining ourselves to the organic band of perception, specifically to the human band of perception, but I just want you to know that it is possible to modify your awareness field so you can perceive what plants perceive, what birds perceive, what beings in the astral perceive, what beings in the causal perceive... The kundalini is the energy that opens up the bands of perception.” Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz
