Developing Willpower

“In Zen we study the will. We learn how to cultivate it and we learn to use it in specific ways -- to accumulate will. It is something that you can accumulate, just like money... Each day practice zazen -- will yourself -- whether you like it or not -- to sit down, to meditate. That will do more for developing your will than anything else. Tantric Zen

"There are all kinds of wonderful stories, of course, about practitioners of tantra who seemingly break all the rules and yet are enlightened. But they don't try to break the rules. In other words, the thought isn't: ”Well good, let's find out everything we're not supposed to do and go do it!” Or the thought isn't: “Oh boy, I can just enjoy absolutely everything and become enlightened!” Neither of these are real case scenarios. Let us just say that life draws us in different directions, sometimes simultaneously -- and when you follow the direction that life draws you in, if you stay in a very powerful state of mind, then you'll see eternity." Zazen: Concentration and Meditation

"There are two practices -- concentration and meditation. For the first year or two, you probably will be almost exclusively practicing concentration. You will try meditating, but it won't come until later... When you concentrate, you're focusing on something. When you meditate, you're letting go and dissolving, you're seeking to stop all thought.

"It is very hard to stop your thoughts. Try it. Not to have one thought, image, idea, or associative feeling in the mind is difficult for most people. Rather than just trying to stop your thoughts, which is hard and frustrating, it's easier to concentrate and focus on something. As you focus completely on something, all other thoughts will be forced out of the mind because your attention will be dominated by the object of concentration. This develops your mental power exquisitely." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

Psychic Development

“Everyone is psychic. You are psychic. It is an ability that we all have. It's a part of your mind.... Psychic perception does not come through the thinking mind, nor does it come through emotional feelings -- it comes from the psychic plane of intuition -- another avenue within mind. To reach into that avenue, a stillness has to be developed, because the impressions from the psychic plane are clouded over by emotions and thoughts.

"It is very, very difficult to hear a radio station that might have wonderful music if there are two larger stations next to it on either side of it on the dial. The signal can be lost in the disturbance.

"So within you there is a continuous signal -- a continuous perception is taking place deep within the mind -- but it's hard to hear that signal because it is blurred over by your own thoughts, your desires, your fears. It is blurred over by your emotional swings. And as you live in this world, unless you live a very different type of life, you lose your sensitivity. You become dull. Karma

“Karma, first of all, is engendered by states of mind. It’s best to think of karma, not so much in terms of physical action, but as waveforms of vibratory energy. Karma is your own energy -- the energy patterns that emanate from your life, from your actions, from your thoughts, feelings and desires…. If you could see the earth from a vibratory point of view and not be distracted by the physical, you would see something like radio waves, billions of them, cascading constantly in very complex patterns all over the earth. Overcoming Stress

“Why does a person experience stress? Stress occurs because that which is within you -- which is light, intelligence, energy -- wants to do certain things and doesn't want to do other things. And that changes. Stress is a result of the fact that you're out of tune with your life and your inner being. If you are doing that which is within you, what that part of you that is beyond (the) body would like you to do, then you would not experience stress, because you would be very fulfilled." "Meditation is the process of stilling the outer surface mind so that you can become aware of the deeper mind within, which has all the answers. Your deeper mind knows everything already. If you can gain control of the surface mind, then the deeper mind will control the surface mind… it will send it the right thoughts and inspirations and feelings…. That deeper mind will direct you.
