Beyond duality, there is no darkness, no evil. There is only light - white light and black light (like the light between the stars). If you focus on light exclusively, then you will experience and become ecstasy!
If the ups and downs of the transitory are bothering you, why not make so much happiness that nothing can affect you? Buddhist yoga teaches us how to remove the focus of our mind from the world and place it in a realm of pure light and ecstasy.
A real enlightened teacher is intense and they are not going to fit into Hollywood images of a teacher. To become enlightened, you need to do what no one does, transcend the self. The steps and maneuvers to become enlightened are learned inwardly from someone who is enlightened.
In this talk given on July 5, 1983, Rama outlined the stages, challenges and crossroads his students could expect to encounter in their study with him, particularly in years 1-5.
"There are two forces at work in the universe -- unity and diversity. Unity is enlightenment. Diversity is illusion or maya, ignorance…. So we could say that, when you step out of enlightenment -- you could say out of grace, if you’re religious -- we step into the world of diversity. We see things as separate…. So then, your journey is to unity, and you need to think more about unity and focus on it. How do you go about perceiving unity? Well, when you stop thought, that’s unity. Thought is diversity. Where else will you find unity? You’ll find it first and foremost in your heart -- in love. Love is the strongest power in the universe. Love is unity." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz
"In the practice of mysticism there are four stages. The first stage is gaining power. The second stage is avoiding the loss of power. The third stage is storing power. And the fourth stage is giving power.
"I've talked a great deal about gaining power and losing power. But one subject I haven't dealt with is how to store power. That's what I'd like to talk to you a little bit about….When I say, "store power," what I mean is you are going to take awareness and consciousness and go into another plane of reality with it and leave it there and draw on it. There are many, many ways to do this. Tonight I'd like to allude to a few of them." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz
"There is a way beyond time, beyond birth, beyond death and rebirth. The way is not to avoid birth, death and rebirth. The way is not to avoid pleasure and pain, hope and sorrow, sadness and frustration. The way is not to accept nor is it to reject. The way is to become without becoming, to act without reason, without hope, without disbelief, without antagonism. The way is to be absorbed, to be absorbed in eternity itself. Not just to think of God or see God or feel God or even to be God, but to be absorbed, to enter into that endless ocean we call nirvana, to be absorbed, to return to the source, to become immortality itself." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz
