Tantric Buddhism

In these diverse talks, Rama draws from classical Tibetan Buddhism and numerous aspects of American culture to create a current version of Tantric Buddhism that is as solidly grounded in ancient practice as it is fully engaged in modern life.

Winning

"In Nirvana there's no winning or losing, but as long as you're in the relative worlds, there is winning and losing. Only the completely enlightened are beyond winning and losing, and they had to win to get to that point." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz What is winning in Rama’s view? Winning in Zen is: 1) being able to do what you want to do, and 2) knowing the Still Center of Being. You win by meditating to gain control of your time, life and mind, and by building a winning identity.

Zazen: Concentration and Meditation

"There are two practices -- concentration and meditation. For the first year or two, you probably will be almost exclusively practicing concentration. You will try meditating, but it won't come until later... When you concentrate, you're focusing on something. When you meditate, you're letting go and dissolving, you're seeking to stop all thought.

"It is very hard to stop your thoughts. Try it. Not to have one thought, image, idea, or associative feeling in the mind is difficult for most people. Rather than just trying to stop your thoughts, which is hard and frustrating, it's easier to concentrate and focus on something. As you focus completely on something, all other thoughts will be forced out of the mind because your attention will be dominated by the object of concentration. This develops your mental power exquisitely." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

Wisdom

"Wisdom is the ability to do two things at once -- to be in the world and of it, to enjoy it, to participate in it fully and successfully, and at the same time, to not be here at all -- to be in realms of light, to be in samadhi, beyond all this. That’s true wisdom." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

Possibilities

The late 20th century was a determining time period for planet Earth. Did the people of the Earth choose freedom? Find out how the choices that were made during that time period might reflect in our world today.

Self-Effort

Enlightenment is achieved through a great deal of self-effort. You must go through every step of the self-discovery process. You must win the ecstasy; you must win the freedom, through your self-effort.

Freedom

It is not necessary to pretend you want to be a black belt when you just like to work out once in a while. Self-acceptance is necessary to make progress along the path. If you truly want to attain enlightenment there is no hardship in the practice.

Transience

Everything is transient - meaning it does not last. We are transient in this life. Everything and everyone we know will change their current form. This knowledge gives us the freedom to go and do what we truly want.

Modular Mysticism: Dress for Power

“One's progression along the spiritual path is a very, very intricate matter. This evening I'd like to talk to you a little bit about the structure of your being and how this process actually works, with specific recommendations as to what you can do to radically alter your current state of knowledge and awareness….

"Let us begin with clothing. It doesn't really matter where we start because the rule will apply to everything we discuss. We could discuss the orderliness of your room or your house or your career. But let us begin with clothing, because once you understand the principle, you can apply it to any aspect of your life.“ Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

Modular Mysticism: Seeing

“Nothing is or is not, unless thinking makes it so. We all know the words. Therefore the only way you can tell what is beyond, what is or is not, is to stop thought. Seeing is the process of stopping all thought.” Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz

"You know, the question comes up all the time. Why does one person see more than another? Why can you sit there and see red auras and blue auras and the person next to you won't, if the auras are in fact there? Well, the reason is very simple. The only reason all of you don't see more than you do is because you're held back by your description (of the world). Because in your description, certain things happen and certain things don't, and your description won't bend." Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz
