Tara and Ganga have been teaching all of their adult lives. Tara was one of Rama’s first five students. She met him at a meditation class at Stony Brook University and helped establish his teaching programs in New York and later California. Tara began teaching meditation, yoga and spiritual topics in 1978. In California she partnered (seva) with another student in Rama's production company to create a massive advertising program promoting the Zen Seminars and other programs, produced and procured magazine advertising, assisted in producing books, designing logos, brochures, tapes sets and CDs.
Ganga became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation in 1973 and started a meditation center on the North Shore of Long Island where he taught several thousand people over the next seven years. From 1979 to 1982, Ganga ran a 100 acre retreat center in Mt. Kisco, New York that people attended from around the world.
Both Tara and Ganga worked closely with Rama on many of his projects and were made Buddhist monks and teachers by him. Ganga suggested to Rama that creating video tapes would be useful and served as Rama’s video producer in Chicago.
Tara and Gangha teach an eclectic mix of spiritual traditions, much like Rama did, however the primary orientation is Zen Buddhist. They lived in India for seven years and upon returning to America in 2010 began touring America offering free seminars. To date they have given over 600 free workshops in America and Asia. Their motivation since early in life has been to assist in raising the consciousness of humanity.
